Fabulous. Gollum/Smeagol is one of my favourite characters, yet when I try to write him I never seem to do him justice. I love seeing what other authors do with him, though, and I think your portrayal of him in his youth is just right. It's also a great little gap filler; I've wondered before about the "teaching his grandmother to suck eggs" line.
Great work.
Was he ever innocent?
Author's Response: I think so. I imagine him as being mischievous, not out of malice so much as out of a desire for attention. The Ring would have twisted it easily into something dark.
oo! This was nicely done! Very skillfully drawn and believable. I have always found Smeagol to be a fascinating, underexplored character and your works, at least the ones I have read, do a lovely (if I could use that term! LOL!) job of it.
I loved it. Very well written and I love your angle on Smeagol's character before the ring, which is something I've always been curious about.
Author's Response: Ditto. Tolkien gave us all these hints about what his life might have been like, but very little that is actually certain. It gives one room to wonder.
A hint of Smeagol's future and past all in one. I liked the grandmother and her slight forboding, yet obvious care for Smeagol.
