Bio:

I am a 25-year-old student from Finland. I became aqcuainted with Tolkien's world in 2001 when my brother bought me a ticket to the movie Fellowship of the Ring. I became fascinated with the story and read Lord of the Rings immediately afterwards. I became so hooked that then I practically had to buy the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales also. Since then I have read those books at least once a year. As a lover of history I appreciate the detailed background Professor Tolkien made for his world, unrivaled in fantasy genre.

Before I made this profile I had read fanfiction only for a few months, first parodies but then moving to more serious stuff. In a "weak moment" I decided to try and write a few stories myself. English isn't my first language, so I apologize for any great mistakes. Finally, some quite useless facts about myself:
-I am an ex-boy scout (whence my love of nature)
-I study history
-I served for six months in the Finnish army (it's obligatory for men here) as a private in the mechanized infantry
-I read very much novels, my favourite authors including but not limited to Tolkien, Juhani Aho (a Finnish classic), Alexandre Dumas and Raymond Chandler
-I have read a few fantasy series, but up to now found only Tolkien, Robin Hobb and Robert Jordan (the last one with many reservations) worth the time
-I like very much Germanic sagas, Celtic myths and our own Kalevala
-I listen mostly classical music, my favourite composers being Wagner, Sibelius and Tschaikovsky. My favourite artists of light music are Frank Sinatra and a few Finnish tango singers.

The picture in my profile is one of Arthur Rackham's illustrations for Richar Wagner's The Ring of the Nibelungs. (Yes, the scene is not that of Aragorn and Eowyn in Edoras, even though it could be.)

14/06/2009 - My story Heart of Rhūn has been nominated for Middle-Earth Fanfiction Awards (MEFA) 2009 competition.

Summary: In the decades before the War of the Ring, Ithilien was a no man's land, periodically contested and occupied by bands of Mordor Orcs and troops of rangers from Emyn Arnen and Minas Tirith. The rangers' brave leader was Captain Faramir, son of Denethor II, Steward of Gondor. This story takes place near the northern fringes of the Ithilien woods about a dozen years before the War (Adapted from a Vietnam experience).

Summary: There are many diehard Tolkien fans that complain that either Peter Jackson's films destroyed their cherished images of Middle Earth or didn't capture the spirit of Middle Earth. My answer? It could have been a thousand times worse.

Comments: A hair-raising glimpse of what could have been, if Disney had the rights to LotR. Very amusing.
