Erestor is so stubborn! But you can't help but love him for it. :D Or to feel sympathy for him.

Author's Response: ;-) That trait is even going to get worse... and sorry for yesterday, the dice obviously didn't favour you :-) But I am really anxious to get to the second part and it is so nice of you to keep commenting ... so here goes the last chapter!

Uh oh. I smell trouble. Poor Elrond and Celebrian. The worst things always seem to happen to the best people. :(

Author's Response: Yeah, I know. Actually after promising you that it would get better I reread the story and ... well it *will* get better, but ... not really until the last chapter I guess. I really feel bad now. Hm, but the sequel is already finished and that has a happy ending! As I mentioned, "The Bitter Glass" was just meant as a prologue and merely meant to explain the situation in which the sequel (I'll probably name it "Scarred Fate") starts. Hope you'll keep reading nonetheless ;-)

Title: Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Broken Reviewer: Melda Signed
Awww. Such a sad'll get better,though,right?

Author's Response: Grrrrr ... You really give me a bad conscience ;-) ... now I'll have to throw a dice to decide if I give you the next chapter now or tomorrow! Anyway,I know, killing Dírhael so soon was quiete ... insensitive and what I did to Celebrían and Elrond ... But to get Glorfindel and Elrond together one needs to offer an explanation as to why Celebrían is not waiting for her husband to join her in Aman. And I hate it when someone starts to turn a wonderful character of Tolkien's into something despicable and I didn't like the idea of an arranged marriage between the two, so I came up with this version. What do you think of it?

I really like this story! It's so sad, but I want to know what happens next! :D

Author's Response: Wow, that was fast ... ;-) Anyway, thank you very much and as I take it that you liked the story and the writing style, I'll upload the next part unchanged right now just for you ... But I'm afraid that it is maybe even more depressing than the first part, but it'll get better, I promise.

Scarred Fate by Massanie Rated: NC-17 half-star [Reviews - 95]
Summary: He is the youngest chief advisor in the history of Middle Earth; he is intelligent, calculating, secretive ... and highly manipulating.
No one realises the extent of this ability until suddenly all around him disaster is coming thick and fast and a well-planned chaos breaks out.

I might add that none of the original characters are evil as one might expect after reading the summary.

Title: Chapter 23: Chapter 23: An Error Of Judgement Reviewer: Melda Signed
How about 'Diary of a mad darkling'? It's a parody of Diary of a Mad Black Woman an is still relevent since it concerns the diary. :) Whew, I really had to wrack my brains for one this time.

Author's Response: ;-) Yeah, for this chapter it was really hard to find a suitable title, wasn't it? I wanted something that had to do with both parts of the chapter and when I couldn't find anything I chose to take one for the second part because it is more relevant for the story line. But I like the idea and remembering his mad expression from just before the avalanche, that really made me smile. Do you have an idea for the whole chapter? Maybe something concerning Arwen & Galadriel? I don't know ...

Erestor! He's finally back!

Author's Response: ... and gone again. So sorry ;-) but at least Elladan is with him now. Thank you for your comment, Melda ;-)

Hmm. This is getting complicated again. I wonder if the knots will ever untangle themselves. And really? You're not a native English speaker? I am, and I've noticed very few mistakes. If I may ask, what was your original language? I love languages, I'm studying German and Italian and I've got a bit of Spanish under my belt right now. The Latin languages are easier to learn if you know a little of some of each because they are so similar. :)

Author's Response: As I said when uploading the Timeline chapter, the complicated part starts just now ;-) . But the knots will untangle all in time, I just hope you're not getting irritated by the continuous turns, I was wondering if maybe I overdid it... I'm actually German, but I have close family in the United States and I started to learn English at the age of 9, which is rather early in Germany. But I admire you for learning it, compared to English, German is rather complicated. I found Spanish rather easy ;-) . It is right though, the Latin languages are rather similar, although never learning Italian, I can understand the written words just fine. Hope you keep it up, I love languages, too and even considered learning Sindarin... ;-)

And you should be :D Stories get so boring when they're no longer fun to write, don't you think? That's why I usually do comedies, they're entertaining for both the reader and writer.

Author's Response: Very true! A story won't be worth reading if the author didn't find it worth writing.
But I found that I suck at humor... my attempts at it have been nothing but pitiful at best, so I stay with angst and my awkward attempts at romance for the moment ;-). I love to read it though...

Oh, finally! I was getting kinda worried that Erestor wouldn't get out of this! :) By the by, I just sent the letter for the autograph. Thanks so much for your help (I know I must have said it thousands of times by now, but I just had to say it once again). Happy Holidays!

Author's Response: But I promised I'd save him :D and I always keep my promises!
Anyway, I'm not finished yet, some chaos is still on the way, but I'm working on saving everyone ;-)

And you're very welcome, I am glad I was able to help and I hope your friend is going to like your gift.
Happy Holidays to you, too, and thank you very much for the review, Massanie

Yes, I'm still reading! Sorry I haven't been on for such a long time! I really apreciated the little graceful nod you gave me for my suspicions! I would like you to know that as soon as I saw that, I did indeed do a bit of a Yay-me jig...just a bit. :D I still love the story, I just have a lot of..real-world probs, you know how that place works ;)

Author's Response: Welcome back then ;-) Don't worry, I know how that is. Life just has a habit of getting in the way. Glad that you are still reading, and that you still like it even though it is getting more brutal with every other chapter. Anyway, I am currently writing your happy end and have now just finished the first well deserved NC-17 chapter that did not earn that rating due to violence ;-) It's the first slash scene I've ever written and I find myself nervous to send it to my beta, let alone post it ... I am not going to reveal the pairing, though. Want to make a guess in hope of getting the chance to do another 'Yay-me jig'? :D

Nice. Loved these last two chapters! Hmmm. I wonder if they'll get to Erestor in time. Oh, and I have recomendation to make. I read a Glorfindel/Erestor fanfiction a few weeks ago and I really liked it. It was called By the Grace of the Valar. Check it out. :)

Author's Response: Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it! I read By the Grace of the Valar some time ago and loved it, too. They just are one of my favorite pairings ... My absolute favorite so far was "No Remedy" by LittleMouse. You can't find it here but in the Library of Moria. It's really great, so angsty and hilarious at the same time... just brilliant!

As for the pairing..hmm...I think Haldir and Lindir should be up next. And, as for this plot twist. I'd have to say that it wasn't unbelievable. I mean, there has been a pairing of an Elf and a Maiar before in Canon, so who's to say it can't have happened again? I thought it surprising, but not absurd. :D

Author's Response: Thanks! You're right, there was still Melian ... I have to admit that I didn't really think of that ... still it's not that common in the LotR fanfiction world and I was not sure how you all would react to that. So I'm glad about the positive feedback!

And your guess is duly received, you'll see in time ;-)

YAY! Another pairing...I hope. Keep on truckin' my friend, I predict good times ahead. :)

Now here's an interesting dilemma. I wonder what Erestor could be planning? I have an idea, but I'm not sure.... Keep updating, please! Can't wait to read more!

Author's Response: Then I'll give you another two chapters. And I promise to finish this story. I hate it myself when I start reading a story that I find interesting which is then never finished by the author, there are just too many promising stories like that.

Title: Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Suspicion Reviewer: Melda Signed
Erestor's got a plan, I think. He's probably been two steps ahead of Fin this entire time.:) Good story, my friend! I enjoyed this chapter.

Author's Response: Thank you very much, I enjoyed writing it :-) I feel so giddy with excitement, knowing Erestor's scheming, and wanting to know how you react to it, that it is hard not to update it all at once; but then I have no chance to write the third part...

Title: Chapter 6: Chapter 6: No Regret Reviewer: Melda Signed
Whoa. Suicide? Poor Erestor. I kind of expected it though.

Author's Response: Hmm, yes ... I only hope it's not too predictable ... ah, just wait, it's long from being over. Anyway I am fired up for your opinion on the next chapter, so I am going to update right now ;-)

Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Leave Me A Lie Reviewer: Melda Signed
Hmmm..a little dark, but I'm curious about those letters. So I can't wait for the next chapter, even if it's super tragic!

Author's Response: Hey Melda, I am so sorry that I can't really promise you a cheery part ... for quite some time ... but I promised you a happy ending, and I'll stick to that ;-)

Title: Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Presentiment Reviewer: Melda Signed
Wow. Meow. Erestor jost got so p.o.ed that his eyes changed color. I guess I can relate to that! I'm usually nice and cheery, but I've had people tell me that when I'm mad, my eyes seem to flash and the yellow marbling (which is outstandingly common in people with green eyes like mine or even hazel ones) seems to become pronounced so that it looks really weird. I freaked out two guys who made me mad when I was in freshman year so badly that they avoided me until graduation!

Author's Response: ;-) I was told that I have a 'devilish gleam' in my eyes when I am angry. That went so far as to my fellow students trying to be around by all means necessary when I needed to give someone a tongue lashing (that person had tried to steal my work and I needed him to go to my prof and admit to it or I would have been accused of plagiarism...). But I wish my eyes would change colour, too, I find that pretty cool.

And there's a SECOND plot twist???? Darn, you're going to give me a kind of reading whiplash, with all these violent tists and turns and starts and stops. But I love it. It's like a rollar coaster and I LOVE rollar coasters. :D Keep up the good work!

Author's Response: OK, now that definitely IS the nicest thing anyone ever said about something I wrote! Thank you very much, I hope I won't let you down...

Title: Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Gift Reviewer: Melda Signed
DUN DUN DUN! And there's the most amazing plot twist I've ever read in a fanfiction! :D Serious genius.

Author's Response: Damn it, I didn't see this comment ... well that's even nicer than the other one! I so hoped I wouldn't lose you on the way because Scarred Fate has some rather violent scenes and you seemed to prefer the parts that were more benign. But still: I promised you a happy ending, didn't I?

Title: Chapter 8: Chapter 8: In Shambles Reviewer: Melda Signed
Please update soon! And I'm now doing a happy dance because I was right about Erestor having planned the whole thing! YAY ME! Loved the chapter.

Author's Response: Hihi ;-) You know you are really brilliant at encouraging me once I start getting doubts over this. I wondered if I overdid it with Elladan starting to torture that soldier, but I didn't want to leave it out either as I wanted to show how bitter he became over the ordeal his mother went through. So here is your chapter and a second one also ;-)

Title: Chapter 35: Chapter 35: The Mad Scene 1 Reviewer: Melda Signed
That was really action-packed! Oh, and by the way, Happy Thanksgiving!

Author's Response: Thanks! I hoped to pep up the story a little bit while everyone is journeying to Mirkwood and at the same time I kinda thought that Erestor was not the type to just give in without a fight, especially when those he cares about are at stake. Both reasons added together and resulted in what I had originally called "The Last Ruse". But then I remembered your proposed chapter title "Diary of a mad darkling" and realised just how mad he must appear during this scene and changed the chapter title to "The Mad Scene". So it really is inspired by you once again, thanks for that ;-)
Makes me wonder, though, how you realised so early that Erestor is somewhat insane...

And: Happy Thanksgiving to you also!

I'm more than happy to have helped you once again! You know that saying 'Great minds think alike'? That's probably what's happening here:D By the way, this chapter really showed how desperate and unselfish Erestor is, which is really great. :) Oh, I was wondering....have you ever heard of the band Tokio Hotel? It's totally off-topic, but my bestie Amy is a huge fan (I've heard a few songs and agree that they're really good, but I'm not majorly into them) and I was hoping to get her an autograph for Christmas. If you come across anything on the net, could you please tell me? I'd really apreciate it!

Author's Response: Hey Melda,
Thanks for your review. Erestor is really desperate right now, never having anyone to tutor him in the ways of prophecies he made some major mistakes that now cost him dearly...
And it's right: you seemed to somehow guess the finer mechanisms behind the personas and relationships in this story all along, which kinda made me wonder sometimes if I was too obvious. But maybe it's just "thinking alike" :D

And as for the autograph, I sent you a mail ;-)

Yay! No more violence! I love you, Massanie!

Author's Response: :D I promised, didn't I?
Gods, you had me laughing!

But though Gates of Dawn is not planned to contain violence I am actually planning another story that will also have some violence, though no abuse... I guess I cannot really write something without at least a tiny bit of angst ;-) ...

I'm proud of you, Messanie! This was a great story and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Author's Response: Thank you very very much!
You were the very first to offer me encouraging words for the first chapter of The Bitter Glass and the very first to review for the last chapter of Scarred Fate, really fitting!

But I'm afraid that you'll have to wait a little bit for the next story. My beta already has the first chapters but I'm going to need more time to think and write.
I really hope you are content for now with the ending of Scarred Fate.

Again thank you, your words really meant much to me!
